This year I made a more conscious effort to see as many of the Oscar nominated films as possible. Thank goodness I had seen quite a few already before the nominations were released. I know this comes fairly late but I had two more films to see. Below are the nominated films and highlighted in red are my choices to take home the Oscar.
BEST PICTURE The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Frost/Nixon Milk The Reader Slumdog Millionaire
I chose Slumdog for it's well rounded storyline, casting, and execution. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button came in second for me, but I hope Slundog Millionaire takes the prize.
BEST DIRECTOR Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire David Fincher, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Ron Howard, Frost/Nixon Stephen Daldry, The Reader Gus Van Sant, Milk
This was a tough choice but I chose Fincher for the direction of full taleted cast in being able to bring it all together in range of mixed emotions and believability, that story could happen and time when it did.
BEST ACTOR Richard Jenkins, The Visitor Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon Sean Penn, Milk Brad Pitt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
Although much praise has been given to Mickey Rouke and well deserved I must say Sean Penn performance is my choice for Oscar winner. Sean Penn's more conplex character is truly absorbed and clearly he clearly becomes Harvey Milk.
BEST ACTRESS Anne Hathaway, Rachel Getting Married Angelina Jolie, Changeling Melissa Leo, Frozen River Meryl Streep, Doubt Kate Winslet, The Reader
Although my personal favorite actress is Angelina Jolie I must give credit where credit is due. Kate Winslet is my prediction to win the Oscar this year. I don't recall where I heard this but agree, only a great actress will allow you to feel simpathy for a woman who has an affair with a 15 year old boy and perceivably has no remorse to work in a concentration camp.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Josh Brolin, Milk Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder Philip Seymour Hoffman, Doubt Michael Shannon, Revolutionary Road
When the buzz was first circling around for Heath Ledger to win an Oscar I was smug and believed that it would only be given in order to pay tribute to his work postumously. I was completely wrong, after seeing his performance in the Dark Night I full heartedly believe his performance was Oscar worthy. I loved Robert Downey in Tropic Thunder but Penn SHould win this time around.
This was another diffucult choice for me. I would be content with whomever wins, but I believe Taraji Henson had the edge.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY Frozen River, Courtney Hunt Happy-Go-Lucky, Mike Leigh In Bruges, Martin McDonagh Milk, Dustin Lance Black WALL-E, Andrew Stanton, Jim Reardon, Pete Docter
I saw this film at Sundance last year and was amazed it didn't do so well at the box office. Although at times the film was a bit grewsome for my taste the screenplay was comical/playful and very entertaining.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Eric Roth Doubt, John Patrick Shanley Frost/Nixon, Peter Morgan The Reader, David Hare Slumdog Millionaire, Simon Beaufoy
For the same reasons Slumdog should win Best Film it should also win Best Adapted Screenplay
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE Bolt Kung Fu Panda WALL-E
I enjoyed all three films, however Wall-E touched my heart.
BEST ART DIRECTION Changeling The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight The Duchess Revolutionary Road
BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY Changeling The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight The Reader Slumdog Millionaire
This one I am not sure about so I'll give it to the underdog for this category.
BEST COSTUME DESIGN Australia The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Duchess Milk Revolutionary Road
Credit should be given for well execution for the aging of Bejamin Button and wordrobe to match timeframe.
BEST EDITING The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Frost/Nixon Milk Slumdog Millionaire
The story had many flashback, action shots, various intrecacies that make this a winner.
BEST MAKEUP The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Make up for various characters in this film was flawless.
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Alexandre Desplat Defiance, James Newton Howard Milk, Danny Elfman Slumdog Millionaire, A.R. Rahman WALL-E, Thomas Newman
BEST ORIGINAL SONG ''Down to Earth,'' WALL-E ''Jai Ho,'' Slumdog Millionaire ''O Saya,'' Slumdog Millionaire
BEST SOUND EDITING The Dark Knight Iron Man Slumdog Millionaire WALL-E Wanted
BEST SOUND MIXING The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Slumdog Millionaire WALL-E Wanted
BEST VISUAL EFFECTS The Curious Case of Benjamin Button The Dark Knight Iron Man
From email forward, too funny not too share: A first grade girl handed in the drawing below for a homework assignment. After it was graded and the child brought it home, she returned to school the next day with the following note:
Dear Ms. Davis,
I want to be very clear on my child's illustration. It is NOT of me on a dance pole on a stage in a strip joint. I work at Home Depot and had commented to my daughter how much money we made in the recent snowstorm. This photo is of me selling a shovel.
All I could think on this day was "Holy Crap - It's REAL!" My heart was filled with great emotion to see the inauguration oath and parade, truly a full day of celebration. I had never publicly outted my choice for presidential candidate preference, or any politician for that matter. Truth be told I am a bipartisan voter who has voted in candidates from both parties. This year was the exception. I not only disclosed my choice I also campaigned for my choice and hit the road to canvass at strangers doorsteps. It all paid off and I am hopeful this change will make the difference.
Just wanted to send all my family and friends sincere happy wishes this holiday season. Oh yeah, the boys were also in the holiday spirit and wanted to say merry Christmas as well...
I'm so glad the new dog I adopted last weekend Rockefeller ('Rocky')is getting along marvelously with Sir Charles. They have bonded quickly and now play like brothers. They wrestle, smack, hug, lick ad chase each other in good spirits. Here's a clip of them being their goofy-selves.
What started out as a very sad clip turned out to be a very heart warming proof of animal intelligence and compassion. This is why I love dogs. They are very loyal friends and intelligent, compassionate creations of life!
TRANSLATION: These images taken from a vigilant cams from northern side of the coast show a common situation that occurs in the major capital expressways. A product of over population of stray dogs in the city, it is normal to witness more than one dog being hit by an automobile.
In this video it is evident how the dog agonizes after being dragged by the vehicle. What is moving is the dedication of another canine who attempts to save the injured dog and drags him to the expressway shoulder.
Actions like this one will unfortunately continue to proliferate if no concrete solution is placed to solve the problem for overpopulation of stray dogs.
As always, I hope everyone is enjoying time with their family and friends. Let the joy and laughter continue as we kick off the holiday season. I am about to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving feast with my family and am thankful to have them near. I am aos thankful I didn't have to cook :)
My specialty is shopping so I bought the wine and cheesecake.
For almost two weeks I believe I have become addicted to the 'Shiba Inu Puppy Cam' featured on Ustream. I marked a tweet that included the URL as a favorite and have clicked through regularly to check on the pups. I thought this would help subdue my want for another dog in the house to keep Charlie and I company. Unfortunately, as I confess to my addiction I realize it has actually increased it. These pups are adorable. I want to share the fun...
Tuesday's election night was an amazing moment in history that I will remember forever. I wept with many other US spectators and even others watching us from other countries. Barack Obama's speech as usual was inspiring and John McCain was a true gentleman providing a gracious conceding speech. It's true what people kept telling us, no matter what political party you voted for, the election of Barack Obama is historic in a positive way. This past Tuesday, November 4 2008, Dr. Martin Luther King's dream became reality. His children and all of America's children for that matter, witnessed a black man be judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.
I watched in amazement, motionless with tears flowing down my cheeks for several minutes letting the reality sink in. It was truly an emotional night for many. Two days after and I am still emotional. I see clips of others experiencing that event and relating what meaning Obama's election has for them and their children and I get goose-bumps and get teary-eyed. I have always been proud and love my country, I can't help but to keep smiling and keep my head held high with even more pride. -- Thank you!
As I see my twitter updates go wild with 'breaking news' that voting has begun at midnight (eastern time) in New Hampshire, I can't help but to feel alive. I am living history in the making and loving every second of it. I urged my friends and family to vote and I think I nagged my sister too much. I kept reminding her how many suffered before us in order for us to have the right and power to vote. I will keep reminding all, no matter your party preference, make your voice heard. If you haven't done so already, go vote!
I can see this going viral, I am sure going to help it. I recieved it in my inbox today, after watching it I loved it and passed it on. Here is another proof of great marketing for the Obama campaign...

I just placed a comment on an interesting blog from a new twitter follower. Thelazyslacker.com aims to take his new blog from $0 to $1,000,000. It is gaining ground in gaining new twitter followers and unique visitors to the site.
I added a comment for my strategy for when to reciprocate a twitter follow and decided why not post it here for you as well, should you decide to join twitter and add followers of your own.
My strategy in following people back from twitter. After receiving an email for a new unknown follower: 1)Ill check out their twitter page if I like their recent updates 2)Check out their interests 3)See URL and deem that it is not spam I'll click into profile URL 4)Once I've spent a few seconds on their site, hopefully more, again deem it as non-spam 5)Find it worthy content for visiting again I will then follow back on twitter.
