I'm Still Proud of the USA and Teary-eyed

Tuesday's election night was an amazing moment in history that I will remember forever. I wept with many other US spectators and even others watching us from other countries. Barack Obama's speech as usual was inspiring and John McCain was a true gentleman providing a gracious conceding speech. It's true what people kept telling us, no matter what political party you voted for, the election of Barack Obama is historic in a positive way. This past Tuesday, November 4 2008, Dr. Martin Luther King's dream became reality. His children and all of America's children for that matter, witnessed a black man be judged not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character.

I watched in amazement, motionless with tears flowing down my cheeks for several minutes letting the reality sink in. It was truly an emotional night for many. Two days after and I am still emotional. I see clips of others experiencing that event and relating what meaning Obama's election has for them and their children and I get goose-bumps and get teary-eyed. I have always been proud and love my country, I can't help but to keep smiling and keep my head held high with even more pride. -- Thank you!

PLEASE VOTE

As I see my twitter updates go wild with 'breaking news' that voting has begun at midnight (eastern time) in New Hampshire, I can't help but to feel alive. I am living history in the making and loving every second of it. I urged my friends and family to vote and I think I nagged my sister too much. I kept reminding her how many suffered before us in order for us to have the right and power to vote. I will keep reminding all, no matter your party preference, make your voice heard. If you haven't done so already, go vote!

I'm In Pain

My right ear is still in pain from this nasty infection. I'm on meds but this darn thing is being pesky and not going away. I hope it's only paranoia but my other ear also begins to feel odd. I'm not very happy about this right now.

Civic Duty

This has been a busy year for my political activism. By no means am I complaining. I'm actually quite happy and proud of myself. Every year I have volunteered to gain new voter registrations, primarily in the Hispanic youth segment. This year, being an election year it has been far more imperative. The focus this year, was not only to get new registrants of all applicable ages and races but also to urge all those who are registered to vote and vote early if possible.

This weekend I crossed state lines and knocked on Indiana doors, as part of a volunteer campaign running in many toss-up states, urging registrants to make their vote count and go place their vote early. Although ailing from nausea and an ear infection I wanted to honor my commitment and knock on as many doors as I could, obviously at a slower pace! At the end of the day, I felt like I made a difference - it feels good to donate your time for a good cause. I am happy once more.

Finding My Voice Again

It has been a while my friend, I'll presume you are my friend if you are interested in reading this. Heck, John McCain has no qualms in assuming my friendship, why should I?

Where has time gone, that I succumbed to partial fear and trapped myself from public expression of feelings and thoughts. I few years back when no one read these excerpts, I felt relaxed and naive in sharing whatever came to mind. I always knew that all these postings would be open to the public and far more importantly would be part of my retrievable cyber-history anecdotal digital footprints. As an eternal middle of the road, PC-conscience and PC-friendly person I've only shared nonsensical and unimportant parts of myself.

Will that change go forward? Probably not, however I have felt lost these past few months. I am an extrovert at heart, somewhat introvert in person depending my mood. I cannot bear it any longer and have the need to express my thoughts again. I have an automatic sensor and do not know why I did not trust it and continued my posts. Well my friend I am back. You may not care, which is even better. I care to share and feel at peace to have this vehicle for creativity open to me once more.

A More Rigid Schedule

I no longer work in the loop. My constant source for spontaneous architectural photography inspiration has decreased to planned visits. Perhaps it's best since my digital inventory could benefit from variety. I am looking through my options available for my next ChicagoPhotos post and see that my choices are limited, I have to plan my locale visit.

Earth-Hour Results

In Chicago, lights on more than 200 downtown buildings were dimmed Saturday night, including the stripe of white light around the top of the John Hancock Center. It was reported that red-and-white marquee outside Wrigley Field also went dark. I am unsure of the total impact resulted from yesterday's event. I do believe it was a good cause and am hopeful to have made a contribution in the quest to make a difference. AP reports: 'Earth Hour' in Ireland is being heralded as a success after analysis released by EirGrid shows a reduction in electricity use of about 1.5% yesterday evening.
I took advantage of the candlelit area of my home and snapped some pictures of the beauty of fire.

Easter Fun With My Family

I had a nice weekend this Easter weekend. Today was filled with family fun. We started the day with attending an early morning mass followed by brunch, egg coloring and easter basket madness! I love experiencing things over again through my nephew's. They truly bring the joy into all the holidays.

My New iPod

So I bought a new iPod this morning. I could not resist any longer and went out to get the new iTouch version of the iPod. Verdict: I LOVE IT!! I did debate for several minutes whether I was going to get the spacious 80GB or the sleek new 16GB. The smaller hipster won. I will be saying goodbuy to my little trusty napster mp3 player I've been using for years, apple just keeps improving their product and it's about time I converted.

Giving It A Chance

I started seeing "In Treatment" on HBO. I have no idea how long it has been running and have caught a few episodes out of sequence. The first episode intrigued me. I'm not sure if I will continue to see it for a long time. I am giving it a chance. The same I must admit I am trying with my relationships. I am currently gving it a chance. I find myself giving everything a chance right now. This is a very odd place to be in, not a common place for me. I've always been hopeful, but I knew the direction I was facing. I honestly find myself with limited control and that is the most difficult thing I have to deal with.

Charlie Playing In The Snow

The best part of the snow is seeing my dog have fun playing in the snow. Like any typical terrier he loves to dig, but since I don't let him dig holes in my lawn he knows digging through the snow is allowed and takes advantage of it whenever he can. This weekend was the perfect weekend for him. So much so that he kept barking for me to let him out to play. I was more than happy to oblige and take pictures in the mean time.

This is muic to my ears! I am frankly tired of all this snow pile-up and moreso shoveling all the accumulation to clearaway a walkway in my sidewalks. My favorite season is spring and the earlier it starts the sooner I will be happy.

Hiding Away

Chicago was hit with a major snow storm last night well into this morning's commute. I awoke this morning to my alarm always set to the news. After lihestening for a few minutes I was frightened. I turned on the TV for a visual and all the local media channels headlined with the weather and morning traffic mess. I contemplated heading in and potentially dealing with the mess myself. I let out my dog and got a look at the slushy pileup myself. I caved, I'm a chficken. I did not leave my home till 5pm when I eventually headed out to shovel my sidewalks. I'm getting tired of this snow. I tried not to complain, especially after receiving a picture from a friend who lives out west, where 3 feet of snow has accumulated.

American Eagle

I've been back from my trip to Utah for a week now and am somewhat surprised that I miss that snow. Chicago has had quite a few snow showers these past days, but the difference here is that the outdoor activities does not compare to what is available in Utah. I haven't had a chance to post all my vacation pictures yet, but I tool some time to atleast post four of the beginning ones. Pictured here is an american eagle, my first view of this iconic bird ever.

Well now that I finally shoveled the snow from my front pathway I better go clean up some space in my backyard. Like I said not just quite the same fun.

Starving Artist Sale

I took my nephew to the starving artist sale I had planned to attend this weekend. We were both actually pretty excited to ho and see what we could find. Unfortunately Julian wanted a painting of his own, even though the prices was well priced for the pieces displayed, I could not agree to pay for the 459 dollar painting that my nephew wanted. I did snap a picture of his upset reaction when I said "No".
As if a mad-pouty face could break me down. OK, sometimes it does, but I'm actually good at discipline. He knows he can't pull that with me, so I knew he was pretty upset. Don't worry I didn't give in. I somehow cheered him up by asking which were his favorites and why he liked them. Then made-up fake stories about them.

Me Walking Through Snow

Last weekend I made it my mission to head to one of my favorite spots - a nearby forest preserve. The weather was a perfect 37degrees. The snow was crisp from the light layer that had fallen the night before and more was expected to fall in the later hours (Boy did it fall!). My mission was completed as I was able to get shots of the trail and winter scenes that caught my eye, including a snowball I created for a close-up :)

This weekend I think I may take a stroll early saturday before all the snow melts from the warmer weather that is expected. Charlie also loves our little hikes through the woods. I think I'll go to another one a bit farther away, where I've spotted deer. Wish me luck! Hopefully the beautiful creatures wll come out and I can take pictures of them again. This time with a better camera than my phone camera I used the last time.

Weekend Plans

Sunday 11-4pm, Starving Artist Sale

I just saw a commercial for what seems to be a great art fair coming up. I can't wait, I have been too lazy to paint anything even though my bare walls are craving for attention. I'm going to try to take a drive to the nearest exhibit at the Oak Lawn Hilton this weekend and hopefully purchase a few pieces. I've been looking for a large piece for my kitchen wall. I've gone to many stores and nothing has inspired me. I did buy new canvas frames in preparation for me to paint the specific image I have in mind. They are sitting in a corner in my office! They've been there for two months now I think. I know I'm not going to dedicate time anytime soon so this weekend hopefully I'll find what I'm looking for.

The Disillusioned SongBird

I realized the reason for my discontent today. My wings have been clipped. That is why some days I feel bright and chipper and other days like today are solemnly gloom. For my wings are an essential part of me. My wings are still there but my feathers have been clipped! I cannot fly for the time being. I am grounded until they are allowed to grow once more. That is the depressing aspect of this all, for my hope and dreams are within my wings and the ability to be able to fly. I do not have the capability to dream. The goodness that comes from optimism for what may be is non-existent for me.

I don't know what will come, and I can't be positive of what will come, because what comes will come and I am here grounded without the hope to fly. My small steps can only take me so far. I had wonderful dreams to travel farther and higher. My wings have been clipped and so have my hopes and dreams. I may be able to grow them again, but until then when I remember my state of being I am saddened for I am grounded without my willing.

Back In Business

All day all I've heard through out US news reports is that late night is back in business today, with the writers under the actors guild association union still on strike. I use to watch more late night night shows than I do now, but such hype suckered me into tuning in. I usually flip back and forth between Jay and Leno, he guest were the ones that actually made me stay on one channel. Today I primarily tuned into Jay, and poor Jay suffered a bit. In my opinion is recap of a dating story was too cheesy and disappointed me. Jay is a comedian and had enough time to prepare better material. Perhaps he did it on purpose to get the writers back - who knows. I also caught Conan O'Brien. I sometimes switch to Greg Ferguson, but Conan is the one that usually has a funnier show for me. I think Conan performed well. The show is still going, but his opening monologue was satisfying.

Now to my business at hand...

The First Day of 2008

The first day is almost ending and it was a close call. I almost started my year off on the wrong foot with the attempt to keep my new years resolutions. I aim to write more, not necessarily to this blog but with all my blogs collectively. This particular section has evolved as a quick recap for my family and friends. I haven't written fiction on here for some time. I have to get those creative juices flowing, I am thinking however that it will be another link somewhere else.

Today I spent quite sometime updating the design of my chicago photos blog. I want to make it cleaner and better structured. I also need to make room to add a space to sell my calendar. I created a "Chicago Photos Calendar" for 2008 and will try to sell some copies online. Wish me luck!

I'm hoping to unveil the new design within a few days, but the posting must continue at a more frequent rate. My rambling posting have diminished over the years and I feel the need to express myself freely once more. Welcome 2008, I look forward in sharing my imagination with you.

Christmas Fun

I spent Christmas with the family and I had fun. This year we had a new addition to the family. My sister welcomed a new pup in 2007. I quickly fell in love, and as a good auntie that I am also spoil him along with my other nephews :) Like my other nephews he also received a gift from me. Also like small children he had more fun opening the gift and playing with the box instead of the actual gift itself. Check out video clip of Wrigley playing with the gift wrapping...

The Gifts Under The Christmas Tree

I finally finished wrapping all my gifts and placed them under my Christmas tree. It is only a matter of hours before I take all these gifts and drive over to my sister's house. This year my family and I are celebratin Christmas Eve at my sister's house.

I look forward to seeing the kids open their gifts with excitement. Christmas is truly meant to bring joy to Children. Their face light up with anticipation, especially the little ones. My nephews are at a young age, five and one, I can't wait to see their reactions.

This weekend was full of for Charlie. My dog loves playing in the snow more when there is enough accumulated to dig through. Last weekend wasn't enough to run through for Charlie. He looks slightly serious in this picture, but only because I told him to stay long enough for me to snap the picture. I Want Another Doggie

When do you say enough? When do you stop the fight? I always try to be optimistic, but GOD sometimes it just takes sooo much work. I say to myself I choose my destiny, but what about all those obsticles that force you in a different direction. Freedom of choice is a lie when it takes you back to a place that is sooo similar to what you had purposedly abandoned for what you thought was growth. When can life be fair? I am not the only one, I know. How much of a beating can we all take, before we acknoledge and say I am worth more than this. I have so much hope for you, and believed in you. Shame on you for not believing in me once, shame on me for letting you not believe in me twice. I think I am ready to say no more. I'm scared, but I AM WORTH MORE THAN THIS.

A Friendly Neighbor Shoveled For Me!

Who ever said random acts of kindness were a myth was thankfully mistaken. To my surprise today I was a grateful recipient of an anonymous person's random act of kindness. When I arrived home today, I parked in my garage as usual and came in through the back door of my home. I walked in but still kept my coat on since I knew I would have to go out to shovel my front entrance. I was not looking forward to it, since it is substantially long. Many of my friends already know the lack of fondness I have for my front yard because of all the maintenance it involves. Shoveling I knew would be quite a drag, considering I had to shovel my pathway and front curb-side sidewalk. I took a picture last night as the snow kept falling. You can't really tell how long the walkway is, but trust me it's long!

Before heading out this evening, I took a peek out my window to gauge how much snow I would have to remove and mentally prepare myself. I blinked and squinted my eyes a bit because at mere sight it appeared as my walkway had already been cleaned-up. I grabbed my shovel that I had left in my front foyer last night, and headed out. It WAS TRUE!! Someone, (I still don't know who! Had to be my neighbor.) had shoveled all the snow for me. The front sidewalk, long walkway AND side walkway towards my yard had all been cleared of snow! I have this huge grin now that you can't imagine. I picked up my mail came back in to look through if I received a note from my little helper. No note was found. Whomever it was THANK YOU!!!!

Charlie Playing In Snow

Snow hit this morning in CHicago. It was frankly a bit less than what I expected. Considering how hard other midwest cities were affected, my area was lucky. I was actually looking forward to a couple more inches to accumulate. Perhaps there will be more tomorrow, since the weather reportd noted conitunous snow for this weekend.

This afternoon while I placed my christmas decorations in the front yard Charlie ran back and forth in the backyard. Charlie is a big fan of snow for his sake I hope we get just a few more.

Elf Yourself

Last year I elfed myself from this office max site. This time around I did it again, but I also added a bonus. I elfed my dog to dance with me. He came out looking a bit taller than me, once again I'm the shortest one. It came out pretty funny though. My Christmas Tree

This weekend I share with you a video clip where I proudly display my Christmas tree. This is the first Christmas in my new home and I bought a fake tree. I'm going green :)
I bought a tree on Friday and decorated this Saturday. I picked a tree that had a nice feel to it and that I knew would last. It was very easy to assemble and is pre-lit. I am definitely happy with my purchase and outcome. Check out the clip with special guest appearance from Charlie Dog :)

My PIcture on the Economist

Another picture of mine makes it's way to another site, this time - The Economist.com. I Gave Myself Food Poisoning

This is why I should not be allowed to cook! I cooked myself a nice plate of eggs and mushrooms on toast. I was so proud of myself. I normally don't cook but started to like that my dishes have been coming out tasting pretty darn good. So was the case again yesterday. The dish tasted delicious, but twenty minutes later I felt my stomach feeling terribly ill. It felt like an explosion inside and had severe cramping in my abdomen. After a couple trips to the washroom I also felt strong chills. I curled in bed with Charlie to keep me a bit warm. I fell a sleep for an hour or so but woke up with pain again. I had a feeling it was the mushrooms that caused my upset stomachache, so I looked online to see if there were any known treatments. After reading on various websites I gave into my fear and called the poison control center. It was confirmed - I gave myself food poisoning!!!! The worse part is that there is no treatment I have to let my body fight the bacteria and run it's course. I feel a slight pain still today, the good thing is that it's not as intense as yesterday, but nonetheless I have pain. I will not be cooking mushrooms anytime soon! I feel good enough to laugh at myself about it though. I like to have an optimistic view and a good sense of humor, if I can't laugh at this there is no point in sharing on this blog. I limit myself already with my post but this little story I am humbled to share with you.

The behavioral strategies for better sleep are deceptively simple, ... This means not watching television, eating or reading in bed. Don’t go to bed until you are sleepy. Get up at the same time every day, and don’t nap during the day. If you are unable to sleep, get out of bed after 15 minutes and do something relaxing, but avoid stimulating activity and thoughts.
So-called sleep hygiene is also part of sleep therapy. This includes regular exercise, adding light-proof blinds to your bedroom to keep it dark and making sure the bed and room temperatures are comfortable. Eat regular meals, don’t go to bed hungry and limit beverages, particularly alcohol and caffeinated drinks, around bedtime. Finally, don’t try too hard to fall asleep, and turn the clock around so you can’t see it. How does one address a fundamental difference in the want for sleep? I know my body and mind requires sleep. Heck, I am at the age now that I painfully feel it every morning. I am no longer able to feel great after sleeping my daily five hours of sleep. I know that what can help me the most is forcing myself to adhere to a schedule, including a sleep schedule. Easier said than done. After so many years of taking advantage of time and being more productive instead of sleeping my mind is stuck with the non-sleep routine. In a few days I actually have to attend a sleep study, I have been procrastinating on making an appointment mainly because I feel I know what they will say. I need to change my sleep habits - UGH I hate aging! I wish I were in my early twenties when pulling all nighters was no problem at all.

My Gripe - Pet Pieves Are All About Manners

I just completed a "manners quiz" to gauge my manners. I knew what the results would be even before commencing the quiz. I do have good manners. What I barely realized is that all my pet peeves circle around manners more specifically the lack of them. I've always felt a little bad about having so many pet peeves, but I finally figured out why I had so many. It all stems to one point I hate being around bad manners and in turn consider it rude. This may offend others but really, must you......

1. Chew loudly or with your mouth open??? (especially loud gum chewing)

2. Talk on the phone that long while in my company? This one gets me all the time!!! I can understand a quick chat to clarify things up, or answer a question from someone in need. However I think it is rude to ignore the person you are in company with to speak to another person on the phone - excuse yourself or tell your phone friend you will call them later!!

3. Do not whisper in someone else's ear in front of me! Even if you are not talking about me, it's just rude!

4. Not hold the elevator door open? I know you saw me coming, just hold the elevator a few seconds. If I am holding it for you - hurry up!! Oh and men, don't shove people out of your way so you are the first one out. It is polite to let the person in front of you exit first. If it's not your floor, step to the side.

5. Read over my shoulder? I don't want to hear your loud breathing. Much worse smell your breath, good or bad I don't want you that close.

6. Sneeze/Burp without covering you mouth? (eeeew germs) That is just nasty.

I am sure I have a few others that I should gripe about, I just can't seem to remember them right now. What are yours? I am probably guilty of committing some ill-behavior as well.

For all you others - and you know who you are, don't be shy! Show off your costume and post a pic! If you can't tell by the picture I was dressed as a gypsy. I know, not quite original but I must confess I like dressing as one. I get to wear so much jewelry and makeup and the jingling sound from the bracelets and coin belt make it even more amusing.

Texas Holdem Has a Hold on Me

I am hooked again. Facebook added a Texas-hold'em app and I of course installed it. The problem now is that I am addicted to the game again. It had been SEVERAL months since I last played this popular card game. I had finally kicked the habit but just as I thought I was out - they pull me back in. The app is pretty nice, it gets the kick in. Bluffing online is not quite the same experience as when you play in person face to face with others. The hand shown in the image won me 200 bucks :) Play money of course, but addicting nonetheless.

I feel happy and I love the fact that I can acknowledge it and enjoy it before it passes me by. Many times before this feeling of utter content passed by unseen and unnoticed until the other extreme of sadness took it's place.

Why is it that we quickly notice and take hold of the sad times and not take the time to enjoy the moments of true happiness? With the exceptions of grand parties such as weddings there really isn't time set a side to enjoy the moment.

I usually always try to take time to smell the roses - literally and metaphorically. Most of the times that I have taken such a time have only been literally. I have no roses to smell right now but I sure am taking the time to smell the metaphorical ones and they smell WONDERFUL!

I've been on a cheerful streak these past few days. I even purchase a pot of chrysanthemums last night. I would have bought a bouquet, but I rather not let the flowers die. I am only hopeful this happy mood persist for a longer period of time.

Gaining Internet Fame

I posted a a couple of pictures of my sister new puppy - Wrigley on Flickr yesterday. One of them is shone below. As I mentioned he is a cutie, so much so that I received a few comments and emails wanting to know more about the little guy. The best part of all is that he has acquired a bit of Internet fame. My friend who I share my Flickr pics with asked if I wanted him to be added to http://my.aol.com? It helps that he works for AOL. I told him to go for it. Sure enough Wrigley made the front page :) Thanks FJ, who knows maybe Hollywood will come a knocking - heheh

Sister's New Puppy

You cannot honestly look at this little face and not want to take it home? My sister brought her new pup over to visit and I felt like stealing it away and keeping it in my home. Charlie needs a little brother and this little guy just melted our hearts. I am seriously thinking of adopting another dog come next spring. I don't think it will be quite as small as this chihuahua/terrier mix but I do home he will be as cute as this one.

Quisiera saber adónde viajará esta vida que tengo. ¿Cuáles serán las aventuras que traerá el camino donde navego? No creo tener miedo de los acontecimientos que me esperan. Tampoco creo que estoy feliz con anticipación. Creo que es la incertidumbre del que será de mi y el no saber cuánto tiempo tengo. No soy tan vieja en edad humana, es mas muchos pensaran que soy demasiado jóven en tener estos pensamientos. Pero no puedo evitar en contemplar mi futuro.

Siempre he dicho que mi destino es lo que yo decido que sea. Creo que enrealidad yo decido el camino, pero no tengo ninguna idea de los pasos que me esperan ni las decisiones que voy a tener que forzarme en tomar. De hoy en dia, creo haber hecho buenas decisiones. Pero tambien puedo admitir que hay días que quisiera que mi vida fuera un poco diferente. Pero me consuelo en poder reflejar en lo que tengo, lo qué he hecho, visto y he podido participar. Mis memorias son buenas y malas, pero forman lo que es ser yo. Y por lo total, estoy segura de tener amor por mi.

I had struggled for days to put my thoughts to words on paper (screen in this case). I gave in to my creativity and began writing in Spanish. I still don't know why I can form creative phrases better in Spanish. My thoughts are almost always in English, my dreams are in English. When it comes to writing however the words just seem to flow out my mind with great ease when I think of them in Spanish. Curious to know what I wrote? It was just another 'to be or not to be' moment of contemplation for my future.

Translation...

I wish I knew where this life I have will travel to. What will be the adventures that will come from this road that I am on? I do not believe I am scared of the events that await me. I also do not believe that I am happy with anticipation. I think it's the uncertainty for what will be of me and not knowing how much time I will have to be me. I am not that old in human years, in fact I am sure many believe I am far to young to have these thoughts. That being said, I cannot avoid contemplating on my future.

I have always said that my destiny is what I decide it to be. In reality I believe I decide the paths to take, but I have no idea of the steps that await me nor the decisions that I will be forced to take. As of today, I believe I have made good decisions thus far. However, I can admit that there are days when I wish my life was a little different. I am consoled however in being able to reflect in what I have, what I have done, seen and have been able to participate in. My memories are good and bad, but they form what is to be me. All in all - I love me.

Chip Stealing Seagull

A seagull in Scotland has developed the habit of stealing chips from a neighborhood shop. The seagull waits until the shopkeeper isn't looking, (a camera was installed) and then walks into the store and grabs a snack-sized bag of cheese Doritoes. Once outside, the bag gets ripped open and becomes a feast for other birds. The seagull's shoplifting started early this month, when he first swooped into the store in Aberdeen, Scotland, and helped himself to a bag of chips. Since then, he's become a regular. He al ways takes the same type of chips. Customers have begun paying for the seagull's stolen bags of chips because they think it's so funny.

Flame Twirling Laydown

This weekend I attended another party where flame was involved. Ha ha, that should have been my heading teaser. Last weekend a friend celebrated her birthday by having friends come over and sit by a fire pit in the backyard. It was quite pleasant, especially considering the temperature was strangely low 60s perhaps mid 50s considering how cold I felt. Nevertheless, perfect setting for a cold early September night. Last night however was a fire twist, literally. Another birthday party, from a friend of a friend of a friend (No not a typo) Don't ask. Quite entertaining see below.

Former President of Mexico Vicente Fox and Me

It's not that often that I get to pose for a picture with a high ranking politician. Here I am with former President of Mexico (2000-2006). I have met a few politicians mainly from my volunteer events. For the most part the politician's I've met have been through my bipartisan participation in promoting political awareness to the youth.

This time around I got lucky to have had a colleague of mine think of me to get me on the list for this event. More info for this event posted in my Chicago Photos Blog. As you can tell from the picture I am way too short, granted this is a tall guy himself, but Oh-man am I short!

I Feel The Music In My Veins

There are days when I just feel solemnly blue. Them I listen to a song that hits my heart stronger and I feel it palpitate harder. I want to sing at the top of my longs, if only I could adequately hit those notes. I feel the anxiousness as my feelings sink deeper as my eyelids become heavy and tighten with the expectation of tears forming. I admire song composition, not only the lyrics for they seem a bit easier to create. I am jealous of dreaming and creating melodies, true musical compositions. Symphonies are greater pieces of art molded by geniuses.

There are a few exceptions to such masterpieces in regular radio play songs. When those cross my path I feel them and take hold of them, play them over and over. I have been a victim of falling prey to catchy hooks, but I am able to discern the difference. I miss playing piano, even if my experience factored primarily playing tunes by ear. I did create my own tunes when I was younger, Very simple keys and chords and romantic lyrics out of a dream. Oh to be young again and succumb to the whim and naivety of thinking I actually had a place experimenting with the sweetness of music.

If Only My Dog Liked Swimming

I've taken Charlie to the the doggie beach on Belmont and Montrose and he will not swim in either. He likes running around only for a few minutes. He'll splash in the water a bit just to get his feet wet, but that is pretty much the extent of it. If he were like other dogs, especially labs, I would seriously consider taking him to this water park. Pretty funny take a look...

Dogs take over the pool at the 4th annual Pooch Plunge held in Fort Collins, Colorado. City Park pool is open for the summer season and then closes for the rest of the season. Before the pool is drained, many four-legged friends get to enjoy the pool. On August 19th - 20th, from 4pm to 5:30pm Dog owners brought their pooches to the pool.

Dentist Manners

I had a follow up appointment with my dentist today. Now let me ask you this - Why do they always choose to ask you a question when your mouth is being detained by some dentistry apparatus or even the dentist hand itself? I think they do it on purpose! I had at first thought it was just my dentist that had that habit. But I think it's all of them - does yours wait to ask you random questions until you are in an awkward position to answer without sounding ridiculous?

Last week I had a root canal, and it was administered by an orthodontist, not my regular dentist. Sure enough not until I had this silly green tooth "dam" in my month did he feel the need to strike up conversation. Today I saw my dentist, but had to have a mold made of my teeth by the dentist assistant. The assistant dd the same thing! There were several minutes when I had nothing in my mouth, it wasn't until I had this plaster/gel like mold in my mouth when she asked, hey are you a teacher? I must be mistaking you, what do you do now? What sign are you - OK maybe not the last question, but you get my point.

I didn't get fitted for my tooth crown today and will have to go in for that in a few weeks. I think I will ask one of them what the deal is.

Barack Obama On LinkedIn

I have to give kudos to Barack Obama's campaign staff. They have done a good job at tapping into all the major social networking sites. Barack is on Myspace, Facebook, YouTube as well as Digg.com. I know the other presidential candidates also have profiles on some of these sites, but I don't think they have done as an effective job promoting their profiles as Obama. Barack is clearly the leader in supporter count on Facebook. Today I received an invite to add Obama to my LinkedIn network.

LinkedIn.com is an online social network of, 'more than 13 million experienced professionals from around the world, representing 150 industries.' I've been a member for a while now and had not come across any other politician campaign. I have not decided who to vote for yet, even though I am a Barack Obama fan as you might know from previous posts. I will finally admit - I am a swing voter. I like to know my candidates from both parties and make a decision based on the views of many issues from each candidate and factor many other items before making a decision. That being said I added Obama to my LinkedIn Profile and placed the badge promoting his campaign. Hey if I receive another invite from other politicians I may consider adding them as well. Again - kudos on marketing this campaign.

Happy Labor Day

Hope all you monkeys are enjoying your day off and are purposely trying not to be productive. I have a few items I need to take care of that I had procrastinating on, but other than that I am still recovering and enjoying my relaxing extended weekend. This day marks the end of summer for many, so I hope you take the time away and venture outdoors to enjoy the warm weather.

I had to cancel a few plans with friends I had this weekend. I am sad that I missed out on some of that fun but am glad to feel somewhat rejuvenated. Hopefully I can still capture some good sunlight and finally go out and take some pictures. It has been a very long time since I've had a photography outing and my cameras are feeling lonely.

U.S. Workers Are Most Productive - Is That A Good Thing?

The Associated Press reports that U.S. Workers are the most productive in world; Each Produces $63,885 of Wealth Per Year...

American workers stay longer in the office, at the factory or on the farm than their counterparts in Europe and most other rich nations, and they produce more per person over the year. They also get more done per hour than everyone but the Norwegians, according to a U.N. report released Monday, which said the United States 'leads the world in labor productivity.' The average U.S. worker produces $63,885 of wealth per year, more than their counterparts in all other countries, the International Labor Organization said in its report.

We may be more productive, but how does that compare to our health? What is the projected life span of employees in other nations and how does the work/life balance compare to that of Americans? How does that also translate to happiness? I know it's a bit hypocrital of me, since I rather not sleep and do something more productive. I do however realize a need to balance life away from just labor.

Charlie Barks To Come Inside

I'm trying to teach my dog to bark at the door when he is ready to come in. Charlie is already trained to bark on command. He knows "speak" and also my sign-language for when I want him to bark. The transition now is going slow however. Everytime he comes to the door he just whines. He will only bark until I motion for him to do so.

Perhaps he needs a bit more practice. Perhaps I shouldn't call for him to come indoors and just wait for him to ask to come in. He loves being outside and is spending more and more time outdoors.

What the hell was I thinking?

I feel like I've been in a sterile room more than I should have been in such a short time. The fact of the matter is that I have. I have been very negligent with my doctor visits since switching employers and selecting my insurance. Two weeks ago I decided to get my act together and go for a regular checkup, which then followed routine exams just to make sure all was still as it should be. To my misfortune a filling came lose, and I decided to have that taken care of right away as well. That short visit to the dentist resulted in a follow up appointment for a root canal procedure.

That day was today! As you might have noticed in my previous post I had just recently visited the hospital lab for blood work. I feel as if I am falling apart. In the sense of total openness and since I'm sharing this info already, you should know that I have an ear infection as well! I think had I not made that first appointment to see my doctor none of these nuisances would have occured. Damn Murphy and his stupid law. I hope nothing else goes wrong. I wonder what my optometrist will tell me when I call to make an appointment to visit him?
