Humanitarian Call

I can't bare to watch the news anymore. Every time I see the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina, I fight back tears. There is bad news upon bad news all over the world. How horrible is this..
New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin ordered 1,500 police officers to end a search-and-rescue mission Wednesday night and return to the streets of the beleaguered city to stop looting that has turned increasingly hostile. | source: MSNBC
End search and rescue missions in order to bring back order! I can understand the need for some people to do whatever it takes to survive. During such conditions one cannot foresee the actions one will take. If I have to plumage a store for food and water for my kid to survive I would more than likely do so. My heart and prayers go out to all the victims and families. I must admit that it saddens me that most Americans don't respond to aid until disasters like these hit so close to home.

Damn Gas Prices!

I received this image from an e-mail forward. Very funny and appropriate to reflect the increasing Gas prices. I shouldn't complain much, since I drive a 4-cylinder small SUV and in comparison to other people I don't pay as much for Gas. I'm still bitter about it though, since I now have to limit how much I drive my truck. I like driving, and long drives use to be my weekend relaxation.

It Figures

I received an e-mail today from my insurance agent. I typically get one of these e-mail about once every three months or so. They are more like helpful tips. If your traveling, blah blah blah.. It's rain season and floods are common blah blah blah. Today I received one that said beware of the flu.
....The first thing to do is try to prevent it. Regular hand-washing is one of the best ways. Small alcohol based disinfectants can be a major help, as well.

The second thing is to take proper care of yourself if you do get the flu. Be very cautious about pushing yourself too hard. You need rest and plenty of fluids. You can resume your normal routine as soon as your body recovers.
Oh great! Guess what buddy - It's day five of this God forsaken crappy flu I am trying to get rid off. Thanks for reminding me.

Searching For My Muse

I found my inspiration again and I am glad that it's back. I lost my eye for photography for quite a long while. Right now I feel that it's back. I've been forcing myself to see through the lens and find inspiration. That didn't help. I feel now that it's back, even though I haven't snapped a single picture yet. It came back while looking at my screen saver that shows a collection of my old pictures. All the pictures in my photo folder, pictures from my travels and seasons in Chicago are shown. My memories have brought my inspiration back, and today I say welcome back friend.

I usually don't plug many things on here, but I signed up to a new instant messaging service today and I am really digging it. I found it through an article that stated interested from Google in this chicago based company. I won't post the details in order to give you the important aspect of the software application. The big plus on this new app is that it's a LOCAL messaging service, where you can easily see who is near you and chat away. Since it's relatively new, the software team is online and will soon give you the welcome. Other members are very friendly as weil. Sign up and say hi @: meetro.com

Weekend Recap

So, I saw two movies this weekend and the thought of it makes me feel like I've wasted time sitting down, staring at unimportant images on a screen. I saw blockbuster movies - not documentaries or educational films, whicah are somewhat 'productive'. Then again, I love movies, they truly entertain me. Why then do I feel guilty? It's not like that's the only thing I did this weekend. I actually had a pretty busy and fun weekend.

I'm still looking for the dress I will wear to my sister's wedding. I want to finally find it and buy it by the end of the week. My sister and I went to a couple different stores and while I didn't find that dress yet, I saw some potential candidates. I did make some purchases though - I bought some tops that were on sale and of course a pair of shoes. Hey they were on sale also! Heheh, that's always a favorite justification for a shopaholic.

After that we went to her future brother in law's new place. They are renting an entire house. It's a very lovely house, they found a great location and a perfect size for their kids with a HUGE yard. We then caught the 'Wedding Crashers' at a late viewing. I will try to post a review, but if you must know, I give it three stars. It was cute and funny. I think women will like it more then men though.

Sunday I took care of Jules for a few hours, while my sister worked. Later we all hopped in the pool. Julian sported his Spider Man floating wet-suit and splashed about. I made head way with some planning for the bachelorette party for my sister. Shhh! I can't tell you the date on that, It will be a surprise for her. Finally I met up with my friend Carson and caught the "Island." I rate that at 2 1/2 starts. It was an action packed film with many special effects but it was too long for my taste.
